One of my biggest complaints was the FAKE Hood Scoop !!!! I soon fixed what the factory didn't address!!!!!
Here is my "Cheap Bastard Performance Intake"

Take 1 Stainless steel pasta storage container, 1 Green Colormatch Air filter,1 Fernco coupler, stir in a bottle of Rit dye simmer for 1 Hour let dry, oil, and enjoy !!! Total cost $63.00

This has gained me a little over 2 MPG on average and the BUTT Dyno say's something is different. Yes it does get wet in there, but when it's dry it is very well worth the effort !!!!!!I have foam plugs for wet weather.....

I sure hope this time your cbp stuff is viewed as constructive. The last time i thought you were gonna have to call in the troops for protection. It does work people, so lets not bee negative. This man made his own cai system and he is justifed in beeing proud of it. I just wish I had thought of it first.

For those of you arguing about the CAI's I took a lot of "heat" early last summer, when I was considering this intake.. I will tell you that the scoop brings in a lot of outside air... How do I know you say!!!! We'll the 1st time it rained I went for a short ride and was surprised to find alot of water in there... I came up with a remedie for inclement weather, and all is good now.. It has been on there for well over 6 months now!!! I was lucky to find the heavy guage stainless "Pasta container" though. I haven't been able to find another like it!!

One other thought. I am working on some idea's for heat shields to further limit engine bay heat being sucked in the from the sides of the filter. Probably some nice stainless attached to the hood that will come down around the filter on the sides and front to prevent radiator heat from getting there. With as much air that comes thru the scoop I think that it will force the heat away when moving!!!!

I am seriously thinking of doing this but in a slightly different form (Its funny to come on here and someone has already tried it)
Where did you make you cuts? center right behind the hood cross-member? Also the scope insert how did you go about opening that up?
any info would be great.

When I get home from work tonight I'll post a shot from under the hood that will give you an idea where to cut.. The hole in the hood is centered behind the hood braces in the rear of the hood...The scoop insert was cut out with a dremel, and hand sanded down using emery boards.... Take your time and watch out for the dremel bit collar. The insert shown is the 2nd one I did, boogered the 1st !!!!

heyyyyyyy Carl!!!!!i found a container that was used to send hazardous chemicals by UPS. it is more or less used as an outside protector. it's slightly larger on the O.D 4.25" what is the length again yours is cut to???
a fernco coupler fits prefect so i think it will fit. does yours have a seam? i thought i saw one? mine does, im wondering if it would disturb the air? and one last thing...how many inches from one end did you drill for the sensor? lol sorry for all the questions!!!!

Jimmy
