Thank goodness for Chrysler roadside assistance. Yesterday I got stranded on the side of the road when my engine light came on and the transmission just wouldn't pull the weight of the truck.

I had been having problems when the truck was cold. Seems I would sometimes have to wait a few seconds for the transmission to decide to do what I was wanting it to. I knew I needed to get it to the dealer, but just hadn't had time this week.

Well, after the truck was towed to the dealer, I finally heard from them today. Their story is that after checking the OBD computer, it told them there was a bad tranny filter. Apparently a technical service bulletin (TSB) has been issued for 05 Rams that makes light of defective filters being installed from the factory. If the filter isn't replaced before the OBD light comes on, it sends the truck into "limp mode" to prevent any damage. We'll see when I get it back tomorrow.

Seems odd that they would pay the cost of a wrecker service rather than sending out postcards to alert owners to the problem. I would gladly have taken it in right away to see if mine was bad. Idiots.

You guys and gals might want to drop by your dealer and make sure your VIN isn't one of the ones affected before you get stranded.

My truck has a few second delay before I can take off when it's cold too. Did it since it was new.

I had the same tranny problem within two weeks of ownership. It acted like it was trying to pull out in fourth gear. I learned that if you park and shut off/ restart then it would get me home.
The dealer ran the code and checked with the factory before the service bulletin was issued. Pulled the pan and changed the filters. It rectified the problem. The only hesitation now is when the motor is not at temp and is sluggish.

the only problem I have had is when it is cold it seems slugish and has a whine to it, when it warms up it runs fine. I'am approaching 15,000 miles on it. This has me worried now cause im going on a trip next weekend and will be pulling a 6,000lb load Confused

My 97 did the same thing for 7 years until I traded it in on the bee. I pulled a boat a fair amount but it always worked.

I got mine back today, and it seems to be working fine after they replaced the filter. It wasn't even sluggish about going into gear after sitting on their lot overnight.

I'm glad is wasn't anything major.

Cold? Mine does it in El Paso when its 70 degrees out...LOL

Every so often, not a full time thing. I have read the filter problem but mine was not in the dat window. I am trying to find the dates again but can't seem to locate them.

General reply to a few comments:
mine is #10957 (I think) so maybe only high numbers and the whine/sluggishness is not all of the time. Temps have ranged from -10F to 80F since I've owned it. Seems to be no rhyme or reason for that syndrome.
